Praying for America: A Christian Perspective on the Presidential Election

One of the main topics of conversation today is regarding the upcoming presidential election in November. It has been quite interesting to say the least, but ought to push Christians away from speculation and towards a posture of prayer.

At church on Sunday, the Holy Spirit prompted me to release a word: don't come off the watchmen's wall and ask God to give us a praying spirit. What is happening now and what is to come is like something we have never seen before.

Scripture says, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." - Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)

What we are witnessing today is spiritual warfare. Christians need to be persistent in prayer. We will see victory in our land when we pray in the Spirit. In this season, we do not have time to let up from prayer and surrender to the works of the enemy..

Some are sharing which candidate they will vote for, and many are Christians, which causes much division and confusion in the body of Christ. Let us remember this scripture: "So then each of us will give account of himself to God." Romans 14:12

We should not be judging others, and we should not be idolizing presidential candidates.

Interestingly enough, the Israelites had the same problem we are facing today, and God provided guidelines for them to follow. Let's be clear: with the Israelites, God never encouraged them appointing a king to rule the nation of Israel because God was their King. Appointing a king was conforming to the nations that surrounded them.

Sound familiar? We want a president to uphold democracy or the republic, yet as believers, we must understand that Jesus is our King. Scripture says, Jesus is the King of kings. Revelation 7:14

Christians, let us refocus our attention to obey the King and follow Him.

I am not by any means telling you who to vote for or taking a political stance or side. God has matured me in this area to keep the main thing the main thing, and that is to represent Him and not a political party and to not become entangled in foolish debates.

If you must choose a president (king), choose the right person. Are they leading according to God's law? Will their behavior lead to a downfall? Is the candidate you are rooting for a godly leader, one that has a heart for God alone? Or will this leader cause people to sin even greater, encourage disobedience, division, and even captivity in the land.

I will close by saying that the Lord has already selected a King for us as Christian believers. He already rules and reigns over us and in us if you have accepted Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

Saints of the Most High God, read your Bible daily, know what the word of God says, fear the Lord your God over man, obey and keep His commandments, and we already know He will direct our paths. Do not turn away from God in this season, but stick with Him all the way to the end.
